Going Tribal

Hiya!!

Day 16 of the 31 Day Challenge, we're getting into the good stuff now!!  Today is tribal print - eeek!!  We all know how anal I am and lines and nails that need to look the same are not my forte.  I found what I thought was a super simple design, but it ended up being a little harder than I thought.  I really love the look of tribal print and I will definitely be trying again, but with more colors!!  Click here for what inspired this mani!

You're Timeless to Me!

Hiya folks!  Second to last day of Neverland Nail Blogs Let's do the Time Warp Challenge, sponsored by Nail Polish Canada - so sad it's almost done - it's gone by in a flash!

Today's task was to create a mani inspired by something that was popular both then and now.  This was a hard one for me - I had such a difficult time deciding what to do and this was the only day I didn't have pre-planned.  After much deliberation and one failed attempt, I came up with Adidas or as it's sometimes known "all day I dream about sex." if you don't get that you've lived under a rock for far too long - kidding :)  I can remember desperately wanting a full Adidas tracksuit when I was in junior high school - I was a bit of a wannabe skater girl and all the cool kids where wearing tracksuits.  I did manage to convince my mom to get me a pair of Adidas sneakers, they were a dark blue suede skater shoe - oh, how I miss those shoes.....  I also remember trying to track down old school Adidas shirts at Value Village - one of my friends scored the coolest Adidas shirt and I borrowed it quite a bit!!  I totally think Adidas has stood the test of time, I know my Grandma bought faux Adidas bags for my aunts and uncles for Christmas when they were kids.  And Adidas is still around, I would love an Adidas bowling bag - I actually think I have a black and pink Adidas purse that is quite cute - I should go look for that.....

Oh, and this isn't the first time, I've done an Adidas mani, when I was in high school, I did the Adidas symbol in white on black on all of my nails - I used a toothpick instead  a brush and I can only imagine the quality of it.....

They Sure Don't Make 'em Like They Used To....

Hello!!  Welcome to Day 6 of the Let's Do The Time Warp Challenge - They sure don't make 'em like they used!  A mani inspired by a classic toy or game.

I love board games and didn't realize I could have done a board game theme for this mani - darn!!  Shameless plug alert - have you seen my geeky Munchkin mani??  Click here!!  Oh well, I'm pretty happy with what I came up with.  This idea immediately popped into my head when I read what this day would have to include - the Fisher Price Chatter Telephone!!  The Chatter Telephone was introduced by Fisher Price in 1962 as the "Talk Back Phone."  It is a pull toy for young children that makes a chattering sound when you pull it.  It has eyes that move up and down and a rotary dial that rings a bell.  The original phone was made of wood with a plastic receiver and cord, in 2000 they changed this to one with push-button numbers with lights to modernize it.  People didn't like this modern version and complained to Fisher Price, who then changed it back to the rotary dial.  The Chatter Telephone was Fisher Price's best selling product and is cited as saving Fisher Price in the 90's after a failed attempt to market toys for older children.  Note:  I've paraphrase this fro wikipedia.

I remember having this toy as a child and likely most of you have as well.  I think my sister might have inherited it, but I definitely enjoyed it!!  Warning, picture heavy, it was interesting trying to capture these how I wanted to!!

Lights, Camera, Action!

Hiya!!  Day 4 of Let's Do The Time Warp Challenge - lights, camera, action!  Nails inspired by a nostalgic movie, song or piece of literature.  Warning, this is going to be a long post - I ended up doing two looks for this day PLUS, it's Polka Dot Day for the 31 Day Challenge - so scroll down if you've got some time!!

My original idea was to do a mani inspired by the dress Cha Cha in Grease wore to the dance.  I LOVE that dress and I love that character even though she had such a small part.  My favorite scene is at the end of the dance with Danny, she's waving the trophy in the air and lifting up her skirt in time with her dance moves.  Grease is one of my all time favorite movies, I can watch it over and over and not get sick of it.  I even loved Grease II - the scene in the bomb shelter - LOVE!  To see what inspired this mani, click here or here.

On to look number two.  As you may know, I love doing nail art - it's so small and fiddly and I thrive on doing small fiddly things!  So, I was bummed that my original idea didn't have heavy nail art.  Another of my all time fave movies is Ferris Bueller's Day Off - Bueller?  Bueller?  Bueller?  My fave scene is when Cameron is lying in bed and sings "when Cameron was in Eygpt's land, let my Cameron go."

Ferris Bueller's Day Off Nail Art

Pointer finger is Ferris' classic sweater vest, the middle finger was supposed to be Sloane's glasses she wears , but the pink is more like Ferris' sister, the ring finger is Cameron's shirt (I chose not to tempt Detroit Red Wings logo, too detailed!), the pinky is self-explanatory and the thumb is Ed Rooney's suit.

Did you come here for Polka Dot Day for the 31 Day Challenge?  I can't disappoint y'all, so here's the one shot I managed to get of my dotticure.  This was inspired by Diana over at  Nails By Diana  - she did the most fabulous mani for Day 7 of the 31 Day Challenge - Black and White - check it out here!!  This girl has the most AMAZING nails - I love the shape and if I could, I would pull this off NOW!  She's also super duper talented, so please give her some LOVE!!

Black Polka Dots on White

I used way too many polishes to list them all (I've been saying that a lot lately....), give me a shout, happy to track it down!!

I Remember When....

Hiya everybody!!  Welcome to Day 3 of the Let's Do The Time Warp Challenge - I remember when.....inspired by a special event in history, either well-known or personal.  I chose EXPO 86'!!

When I first started thinking of doing this challenge and read what we had to do for this day, Expo 86' was the first thing that popped into my head - no need to think or research.  Expo 86' was a world's fair held in Vancouver, BC from May 2 to October 13, 1986.  The theme was Transportation and Communication:  World in Motion - World in Touch.  It featured pavilions from 54 nations and a bunch of corporations - I remember McDonald's and Scotties tissue...  I was 6 when the Expo started and 7 by the time it was over.  I remember going, whether we went once or more than once, I can't remember.  I remember the water park which was a huge UFO with an alien flying it.  I also remember an enormous play house thing that was like a jungle gym, with obstacles you could climb over and slides that went into a plastic ball pit.  There was also a bridge with statues that you could climb and pose on - they were life size human statues doing random things, riding bikes etc.  I think the main reason I remember these things is because there are pictures of me at them - but it was still a cool event that put Vancouver on the map and I was lucky enough to go!!

Expo 86 Nail Art

Expo 86' Nail Art

On my pointer finger, I've done the Expo Centre which is now Science World.  On my middle finger is the logo for Expo 86'.  On my ring finger is the space man mascot that was everywhere!  And on my pinky is what you saw when you came to the event, they were these huge structures that looked like a roller coaster, that weren't welcoming you to Expo 86'!!

I used a bunch of colors, if you want to know one, let me know!!

I Should Have Been Born In....

Hiya everybody!!  Welcome to my first post for my third challenge Let's Do The Time Warp, hosted by the lovely Lindsey over at Neverland Nail Blog!!  I'm super excited for this challenge and have actually planned out what I'm going to do for each day!!  Can you believe I'm currently doing THREE challenges?  Craziness, but I love love love the structure and it takes some of the guess work out of trying to think of new mani's!!  This challenge is super fun and unique (keep scrolling to see what we'll be doing) - we'll be posting twice a week, Monday's and Wednesday's.  We have to do each of the challenges and have only one week to post each.

Without further ado, here's the year I should have been born in - 1950!!  The clothes, the decor, the fashion - although I doubt I would have made a very good housewife!!

Favorite Food - Orange

No, my favorite food is not oranges!  Did I fool ya?  Did I?  Did I?

Enough of the silliness, let's get down to business!  Who's the bright star who joined TWO consecutive challenges?  This girl and I'm not a super star Queen of Challenges like Miss Nicole over at The Color Republic who I think is juggling three challenges? Crazy challenge lady - LOL :)

We're on Day 3 of Ooh La La Polish's My Favorite Things Challenge and Day 2 of Kimber at Kimber's Lacquer Korner 31 Day Challenge.  The trick is to combine My Favorite Food with the color Orange....or do two mani's in one night - tried that last night, with very little success (total disasticure - thanks Nicole at Polish Me Please for the nail lingo!!).  I hope I pulled off two challenge entries with one look!!  If not, oh flippn' well - have you heard about my week so far?

I got my inspiration from these are coasters I made awhile back for a Craft Fair I participated in at work.  These are canvas squares I sewed and then painted with acrylic paint.  Once I added the sealant, I used fabric glue to glue black felt on the back.  I didn't actually sell this set, so I gave it to cousin (who is my sushi buddy) for Christmas.

Favorite Animal?

Hiya!!  So today is the third day in Ooh La La Polish's My Favorite Things Challenge - My Favorite Animal!  After yesterday's horrific day, I'm pleasantly surprised this mani turned out how I expected!  Never mind the fact that I spent time trying to think of all the animals there are out there - I even pulled out the ol' google search to see which animals were 'easiest to draw.' LOL

After much deliberation, I decided to do my puppy poo, Tucker, or as I affectionately call him Poppa, Poppa Dukes, Tucks, Tuckernutterbutter, Tucksnut, Stinky or the love of my life!  I've always wanted a dog, as long as I can remember.  Instead of the real thing, I got a shirt with a picture of a dalmatian on it - not the same thing mom!  We bought Tucker from someone on UsedVictoria, he cost a LOT of money.  We went there with the intention of just checking him out and lo and behold the hubby (who was not in for getting a dog with our three cats), fell in love and could not leave him behind.  Those of you who follow me on Twitter or Instagram, may have seen pictures of my baby, he's got a blue mohawk that gets all the ladies.  I don't think the picture picks up the blue mohawk I've given him, but trust me, it's there!

M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E

Hiya!  Do you have that song in your head now??

On our camping trip earlier this week the boys were drinking Mickeys beer and if you've never seen or heard of Mickeys beer, you are missing out!  Now, I'm not a fan of beer, but I am a fan of Mickeys - seems odd I know.  BUT, the coolest thing about this beer is that they have rebus puzzles on the inside of the caps. Brain puzzles when you've been drinking - awesome!  We had a good time trying to figure out the puzzles, some were really difficult and required google!

These aren't exactly beer nails, but that is where some of the inspiration came from, if by name only!  Also, my little cousin is staying with my grandparents for the week and I wanted to do something cute that he would recognize when I spent time with him.  He's the cutest thing ever, I just want to squish him!!

Polish Olympics

I'm super excited for today's post, it's my first post participating in Polish Days!

A while back on twitter, I was seeing all these #polishdays hashtags and countdowns to polish days and I was curious and somewhat jealous I wasn't in on the in!  Doing a little research (it wasn't that hard, everyone was talking about it), I found what I was looking for.  Hannah at Polly Polish has set up Polish Days, a monthly event for nail bloggers to produce a themed manicure and share it with the world!  I was super excited it was so easy to sign up and couldn't wait until the next month's theme was announced.  And what a theme it is, OLYMPICS!  I know you can't be sick of the Olympics yet, so what if all your favorite shows aren't aired for two weeks and all you can find on tv is unending coverage of speed walking and beach volleyball - the Summer Olympics ROCK!

My mani is inspired by the bathing suits Canadians, Meaghan Benfeito and Roseline Fillion, wore to win a bronze medal for Canada last Tuesday for synchronized diving (10 metre).  I actually managed to catch this on tv and it was pretty amazing!  I also caught a globe and mail video on them that was aired during the event, which gave a brief history of their career and friendship.  These two are the absolute cutest, they are best friends and make me super proud to be Canadian!

I won't post the inspiration pictures directly on my page, but if your curious, click here and here to see the suits they were wearing!  How did I do?
